The general contractor and owner of this recently completed residence brought us in to solve the problem that the original architect had located the main entry door directly below the valley between two major gable forms.

We designed the soft upwards "manta" roof form to complement the conical turret roof of the observatory. We upsized the timber posts and designed the rafters as if ribs of a wooden boat. The roof is flat seamed soldered copper that tucks under the existing standing seam copper roof. Now the entry of the residence reaches out to welcome the owners and their guests home.
